The monthly price index for sawn timber and wood-based materials for wooden packaging and pallets in Germany showed a partial turnaround in December 2023 compared to the previous month. The index for solid wood for wooden pallets increased by 3.7% compared to November when it had decreased by 0.1%. With a reading of 309.5 points, the indicator, determined by the Federal Association of Wooden Packaging – Pallets – Export Packaging (HPE) in collaboration with the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, was thus 7.7% below the previous year's value.

The index for solid wood for wooden packaging increased by 0.5% to a reading of 186.7 points - after a decrease of 1.6% in November. Compared to December 2022, this resulted in a decrease of 17.4%.

Plywood for packaging recorded a decreasing index in December 2023 – down by 0.5% to a reading of 195 points. The index was thus 22.6% below the previous year's value.

With a decrease of 2.6% compared to November to 88.6 points, OSB for packaging experienced the most significant decline. This resulted in a decrease of 33.4% compared to the index level in December 2022.
