Germany: Beech log price index rises almost without exception

Alternativtext The German producer price indices for beech logs developed largely positively in September 2021. On average, they increased by 5.2% to 107.6 points. B-Quality gained 5.8% compared to August to a level of 111.9 points. The index for 3 m lengths decreased by 5.1% to 99.7 points, while that for 5 m lengths increased by 9.1% to 114.3 points.

C-assortments gained 4.7% in September to a level of 108.3 points. 3 m lengths increased 10.7% to 105.8 points, while 5 m lengths increased 1% to 100.1 points. B/C ranges recorded an increase of 5.6% to 103.9 points.

Alternativtext Beech pulpwood recorded an increase of 3.1% to 95.7 points compared to August. Oak pulpwood, on the other hand, was unable to continue the upward trend and scored at 82 points (-5.4%). The hardwood pulpwood price index thus increased by 1.9% to 93.6 points.

In a year-on-year comparison, the index for beech logs exceeded that of the same month of 2020 by 9.1%. B quality gained 2.8% compared to the value from September 2020 with -1.6% for 3 m lengths and +4.1% for 5 m lengths. C-assortments increased by 10.5%, 3 m lengths increased by 18%, 5 m lengths decreased by 1.5%. B/C ranges increased by 11.6%. Pulpwood recorded an increase of 6.1%.
