Germany: Beech log price index almost unchanged

Alternativtext The German producer price indices for beech logs fell by an average of 0.2% to 100.2 points in July 2021. B quality increased by 0.1% compared to May to a level of 104.6 points. The index for 3 m lengths rose by 4.9% to 104.9 points, while 5 m lengths decreased by 0.1% to 104.7 points.

C-assortments gained 1.5% in July to a level of 101.1 points. 3 m lengths increased 2% to 97.4 points, while 5 m lengths decreased 3.6% to 98.1 points. B/C ranges recorded a decrease of 3.5% to 95.9 points.

Alternativtext Beech pulpwood recorded a slight increase compared to June of 0.5% to 94.7 points. Oak pulpwood was able to intensify the upward trend somewhat and climbed to a score of 85 (+1.3%). The hardwood pulpwood price index thus increased by 0.8% to 93.3 points.

In a year-on-year comparison, the index for beech logs exceeded that of the same month in 2020 by 4.1%. B quality gained 9.2% compared to the value from July 2020 with +8% for 3 m lengths and +7.8% for 5 m lengths. C-assortments recorded an increase of 4.8%, 3 m lengths increased by 1.5%, 5 m lengths increased by 5.1%. B/C ranges fell by 0.5%. Industrial quality recorded a minus of 2.6%.
