France: Oak prices on the rise again

After a lull in 2020 - mainly due to the effects of coronavirus pandemic - the prices of oak logs in France are now clearly on the rise. At the recent National Forests Office (ONF) auctions, prices climbed an average of 15% year-on-year ... [Više... ]

The French beech market analyzed by Claude Schnepf

Claude Schnepf heads Scierie et Caisserie de Steinbourg, one of the leaders in the beech market in France with 75,000 m3 processed annually, a capacity which will soon increase to 100,000 m3 thanks to a major investment program. The company exports 70% of its turnover outside the EU (€ 21m in 2019), mainly to China, a market that Claude Schnepf has known for 25 years... [Više... ]

The first signs of falling maritime pine prices that appeared in the southwest of France at the end of 2019 were consolidated in the first half of the year. Where's the French oak market heading this autumn?

The first autumn auctions in France have just been launched by France's Natonal Forest Office (ONF) in a general uncertain political-economic climate. This lack of prospects also concerns the timber market in France. This is one of the conclusions to be drawn from the auction of September 8, 2020 which was not held in Beaune (Côte d'Or), as usual, but in Châtenoy-le-Royal (Saône-et-Loire) due to Covid-19. The entire auction therefore took place entirely online without the physical presence of buyers and observers in the auction room... [Više... ]

France: packing-case wood sector in crisis

Will 2017 be better than 2016 for the French wooden packaging sector? The answer to this question is not easy as the presidential elections with uncertain results approach and render the whole situation even less stable. In the context of a sluggish economy, most pallet and other wooden packaging producers continue to refer to the ambiguity of the situation characterized by two major factors: a stagnant market and orders from packaging consumers that cover only day-to-day needs [Više... ]

France: upward trend in oak sales

The launch of the so-called labeled auctions (i.e. under the labels of quality, as in FSC etc.) organised by ONF (Office national des forêts) doesn't seem to have had any effect on the quality oak sales. This is one of the conclusions buyers and sellers could reach at the close of the latest auctions held early this summer. In the end of May, ONF announced that an annual oak price growth on average came up to 5%, while the volume of unsold goods reached 10% [Više... ]
