Good season for the Italian woodworking industry
27/07/2006 - 12:20

The second quarter in 2006 confirms that the Italian woodworking machinery and tools industry is going through a great season. Even though the trend was not as good as that recorded in the previous period, the indexes are once again positive, confirming the trend started in the second half of 2005.

Traditionally carried out by the Acimall Studies Office on a sample of manufacturers of all types and sizes, the quarterly survey reveals that between April and June orders went up by 5.2 percent as compared to the same period in 2005, a result due to the demand on the Italian market (+23.5%) and stable export, up by 1%.

According to the statements made by the interviewed companies, during the first six months of this year prices increased by 2.1 percent. At the end of Q2, ensured production was stable at 3.4 months.

Based on the indications of the sample companies, the quality survey for the April-June 2006 period gave the following results: 46% indicated the production was stationary, 43% said the production was growing and 11% declared the production was decreasing. Available stocks are stationary according to 71%, decreasing according to 22% and growing according to the remaining 7%. Employment is considered as stationary by 85% of the sample and increasing by 15% only; no one pointed out any contraction.

For the upcoming period, expectations are characterized by widespread caution, even though some signs of optimism are evident. Foreign orders are expected to remain stationary according to 68% of the interviewees, increase for 25% and shrink for 7% of the sample (positive balance +18). In the coming months, the Italian market is expected to have a constant trend according to 71% of the interviewees, it will grow for 8% and it will contract for the remaining 11% (positive balance, +7).
